July 2022: Oklahoma House Passes Consumer Data Privacy Bill

All businesses that retain consumer information in the state of Oklahoma.

What happened?
On March 23, 2022, the Oklahoma House voted 74-15 to pass House Bill 2969 (HB 2969), “the Oklahoma Computer Data Privacy Act,” which will make changes to the consent of data collection and disclosure of private data and several other changes.

What are the details?
The Oklahoma bill is generally based on the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), although it contains notable differences. Below are some of the key points from the bill:

• Consent to Sales
• Consumer Rights
• Exemptions
• Enforcement

Once the bill has been passed, it will go into effect on January 1, 2023.
