On September 19, 2020, the California Employment Development Department (EDD) announced a two-week suspension for all new unemployment claims.
In an effort to reduce backlog and develop fraud-fighting tools, the EDD is not permitting new unemployment claims to be filed by claimants between September 19, 2020 and October 4, 2020.
Any claimant who wishes to file a new claim should provide his or her contact information here. Once the EDD resumes intake of new claims, claimants who submitted a claim via this link will be notified and can file his or her claim at that time. Any new claims impacted by this change will automatically be backdated to cover this time period.
This temporary suspension of new claims will not impact existing claims. Claimants with existing claims can still utilize UI Online to certify for benefits, re-open a claim, and monitor account activity.
